The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources plays an important role in ensuring the long-term growth and sustainability of the province’s energy and mineral sectors.
Vision
The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources serves as the catalyst and facilitator for the development of thriving, sustainable, and competitive energy and mineral resource sectors for the benefit of all British Columbians.
Mission
The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources promotes a competitive investment climate, which encourages responsible development of energy and mineral resources, supports job creation, ensures environmental protection, and public and worker health and safety.
The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources' responsibilities are to:
- Manage the disposition of mineral and petroleum rights;
- Encourage responsible development of BC’s energy and mineral resources;
- Enhance BC’s position as a key player in global energy and mineral sectors;
- Implement regulations to protect public and worker health and safety, and the environment; and
- Provide policy, legislation and geoscience advice and support for the foregoing activities.
The Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources is also responsible for BC Hydro, Oil and Gas Commission, BC Utilities Commission, Columbia Basin Trust, Columbia Power Corporation, Mediation and Arbitration Board, and Assayers Certification Board of Examiners.
