   ADVISORY COMMITTEE
      OVERVIEW
The creation of the Oil and Gas Commission’s Advisory Committee, as per section 7 of the Oil and Gas Commission Act, reflects government’s commitment to expand consultation with interest groups while the oil and gas industry grows. The Committee, born as a part of the 1998 Oil and Gas Initiative, includes representatives with knowledge of the environment, oil and gas, First Nations, local communities and government.

The Committee’s mandate is to provide advice and recommendations on policy, budgetary issues, and strategic planning.

The Committee provides a number of recommendations to the Commission. As of February 2005, 86.1% of the Committee’s recommendations have been implemented. Developments undertaken by the OGC include:

  1. Clarifying Application for Reconsideration processes before decisions are finalized
  2. Broadening environment funding to include greater community involvement
  3. Encouraging First Nation communities to submit proposals to the Science and Community Environmental Knowledge Fund
  4. Review and comment on the priorities of the Science and Community Environmental Knowledge Fund
  5. Providing recommendations to reduce industry fees

An annual report of the Advisory Committee, a list of the Committee decisions, terms of reference and other information is available here.
